Arianespace and ICEYE have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore using Ariane 6 rockets for future launches of ICEYE's Earth observation satellites. The agreement focuses on missions supporting European governments and institutions, aiming to strengthen the continent's sovereign access to space.

Under the MoU, the companies are discussing booking launch services in the coming years. Both firms stated that maintaining Europe's sovereign access to space is a strategic priority. These potential missions would also support the continued ramp-up of Ariane 6 operations in response to growing market demand.

Combining Launch and Observation Capabilities

The planned cooperation would link Ariane 6's launch capacity with ICEYE's expertise in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technology. This combination is intended to meet Europe's strategic needs for independent access to orbit and reliable Earth observation data. ICEYE's constellations are marketed as a fully sovereign capability, free from U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) restrictions.

ICEYE claims it can deliver a complete satellite system-including the constellation, ground segment, training, and software-and have it operational within 12 months of a launch contract. The company reports that seven European governments have already procured sovereign constellations from it.

Satellite Performance and Customer Base

ICEYE's SAR satellites are designed to image the Earth's surface regardless of time of day or weather conditions. Their high revisit frequency makes them suitable for government needs in security, defence, surveillance, and emergency management. Rafał Modrzewski, CEO and Co-founder of ICEYE, said the MoU allows exploration of Ariane 6 as a "large, highly reliable, European launch provider" for sovereign missions.

David Cavaillolès, CEO of Arianespace, expressed delight in partnering with ICEYE, calling it an "innovative and fast-growing European company." He stated the partnership illustrates Arianespace's commitment to sovereign access to space and supporting critical capabilities like Earth observation.

A Focus on European Sovereignty

The agreement is framed by both companies as a step toward reinforcing Europe's autonomous space infrastructure. Modrzewski noted that scaling satellite production requires "scaling resilient, multiple routes to space." ICEYE, founded in Finland, claims to operate the world's largest and most advanced SAR satellite constellation and employs over 1,000 people globally.

The company serves customers in defence, intelligence, environmental monitoring, insurance, and emergency management sectors. The final detail from the source is ICEYE's media contact address: press@iceye.com.
